House Energy Committee Takes Up GOP-Backed Fuel Price Bills

Law360, New York (April 24, 2012, 6:18 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee began considering two Republican-backed bills Tuesday that supporters say would cut fuel prices by promoting drilling on federal lands and evaluating whether proposed environmental regulations would cause excessive fuel cost increases.

“Gasoline prices do appear to be stabilizing at the moment, and that's certainly good news, but we all know a natural disaster or overseas conflict could send gas prices skyrocketing overnight,” said Rep. Fred Lipton, R-Mich., the committee's chairman in opening remarks.
