Medicare Proposes 2.3% Rate Bump For Hospitals In 2013

Law360, New York (April 24, 2012, 7:51 PM EDT) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Tuesday announced its proposed hospital payment rate changes for the 2013 fiscal year, proposing to increase the rates for inpatient stays at acute care hospitals by 2.3 percent and at long-term care hospitals by 1.9 percent.

CMS said the rate increase would increase its spending on inpatient stays at acute care hospitals by $904 million, or just under 1 percent, but that other provisions, including the expiration of special payment boosts for some hospitals, would keep the increase...
