US Says Meat Is Safe After Indonesia Bans Imports

Law360, New York (April 26, 2012, 6:57 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture reiterated Thursday that American beef was safe, after reports that Indonesia had suspended imports in response to a confirmed U.S. case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, earlier this week.

Indonesia's agriculture ministry told reporters that the country would not buy American beef products, in reaction to the U.S. announcement on Tuesday of a BSE-infected dairy cow in California, according the Associated Press. Indonesia is the only country to take such action so far.
