USPTO Blackberry Reexamination Casts New Light On $450M Settlement

Law360, New York (April 22, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A decision by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office to strike down a patent at the center of Research In Motion Ltd.’s three-year legal dispute with NTP Inc. over its Blackberry devices has raised questions about a $450 million settlement agreement.

In a 643-page decision issued earlier this month, the USPTO soundly rejected one of NTP’s disputed patents and strongly suggested others could be overturned.
