Accretive Blasts Minn. AG's Billing Practices Probe

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 12:32 PM EDT) -- Medical debt collection firm Accretive Health Inc. lambasted Minnesota’s attorney general on Sunday for conducting a billing practices investigation the company said was rife with “inaccuracies, innuendo and unfounded speculation.”

Lori Swanson, the state’s top prosecutor, last week released a six-volume, 128-page report accusing Accretive of myriad abusive practices that transformed "the sanctuary culture of a hospital to that of a numbers-driven collection agency."

Accretive fired back in a scathing statement accusing Swanson of reaching conclusions that “grossly distort and mischaracterize” the company’s business model....
