Attorneys General Balk At Monsanto Merger

Law360, New York (August 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- More than a dozen attorneys general have lined up to protest the U.S. Department of Justice's tentative approval of Monsanto Co.'s merger with Delta & Pine Land Company, arguing that the deal will hurt competition in the cottonseed market and cause prices to skyrocket.

Flanked by 12 other attorneys general on Tuesday, New Mexico Attorney General Gary King urged the U.S. district court in Washington to reject the proposed consent decree approving Monsanto's takeover of cotton business Delta & Pine Land Co.
