Ky. Regulator OKs Plan For 600-MW Gas-Fired Plant

Law360, New York (May 3, 2012, 3:43 PM EDT) -- Kentucky's utility regulator on Wednesday approved plans by Louisville Gas & Electic Co. and Kentucky Utilities Co. to build a $583 million, 600-megawatt gas-fired facility and buy an existing 495-megawatt plant, helping the companies meet a 2016 deadline to comply with new air quality standards.

The two PPL Corp. subsidiaries will construct a so-called combined cycle plant at Louisville Gas' existing Cane Run complex in Jefferson County, which will trap and reuse heat that older-model plants would typically waste, according to the Kentucky Public Service Commission....
