SEC Wins Court Battle Over Corporate Info

Law360, New York (August 30, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has emerged triumphant, despite a rap on the knuckles, after a long-running fight over the release of agency records to public companies under investigation.

Though he sided with the SEC in its use of exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act to withhold documents kept by its enforcement division, Minnesota District Court Judge Paul Magnuson said he "disapproved" of the regulator's conduct in the course of the protracted dispute.
