Bipartisan Plan For Medicare Payment Overhaul Emerges

Law360, New York (May 9, 2012, 5:06 PM EDT) -- Two members of Congress launched a bipartisan effort Wednesday to overhaul Medicare’s debt-inducing method of reimbursing physicians, proposing a carrot-and-stick approach to weaning doctors off the fee-for-service system of payment.

At issue is the so-called sustainable growth rate, which was created in the late 1990s to make sure payments to medical providers didn’t outpace growth in the nation’s economy.
