Unalaska Agrees To $18M Upgrade Over Waste Discharge

Law360, New York (May 10, 2012, 7:26 PM EDT) -- The Alaska city of Unalaska agreed Thursday to spend $18 million to upgrade its sewage treatment plant as part of a settlement with federal authorities over accusations it dumped excessive waste into the Unalaska Bay.

Unalaska will conduct the upgrade over the next three years to satisfy its National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued under the Clean Water Act, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement Thursday.
