NHTSA Scopes Hyundai Elantra's Air Bag System

Law360, New York (May 14, 2012, 10:48 PM EDT) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday opened an investigation into the Hyundai Motor Group's 2012 Elantra after a consumer complained that the improper deployment of his car's air bag lacerated his ear and face.

The agency launched the preliminary investigation after receiving a complaint last month about the Elantra's driver-side curtain air bag, which deployed with a metal bracket that caused the consumer's injury.
