House Dems Home In On Gas Flaring Regulations

Law360, New York (May 15, 2012, 6:58 PM EDT) -- Three Democrats on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce said Monday that natural gas produced as a byproduct of oil drilling was being wastefully burned off due to lax regulation and lack of incentives, and called for Congress to investigate the issues.

The request for a congressional hearing into the potential energy and environmental effects of the burning, called "flaring," follows a recent World Bank report that the U.S. shale boom caused global gas flaring to rise in 2011, reversing a downward trend.
