Vermont Gov. Signs Nation's First Ban On Fracking

Law360, New York (May 16, 2012, 7:30 PM EDT) -- Vermont’s governor signed the country’s first ban on hydraulic fracturing into law Wednesday, a move that drew fire from the natural gas industry even though its practical effects could be limited.

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin signed H. 464, enacting a statewide prohibition on fracking, the controversial well completion technique in which operators blast high-pressure water, sand and chemicals into rock formations to release trapped natural gas and oil.
