Chrysler Recalls 67K Jeep Wranglers Over Fire Risk

Law360, New York (May 21, 2012, 1:29 PM EDT) -- Chrysler Group LLC said Saturday it was recalling 67,872 Jeep Wranglers from the 2010 model year amid concerns that a defect in the automatic transmission could spark fires in the popular sport utility vehicles.

The carmaker said the automatic transmission in certain 2010 Wranglers contained a skid plate that could collect debris when driving off-road or through heavy brush. Such debris could then ignite without warning because it was close to the catalytic converter, Chrysler said.
