Australia, Malaysia To Sign Free Trade Accord

Law360, New York (May 21, 2012, 3:20 PM EDT) -- Australia and Malaysia will sign a comprehensive free trade agreement on Tuesday, in a move Australia's top trade official says will further integrate the Australian economy with the fast-growing Asia region.

The trade pact will allow for tariff-free entry for 97.6 percent of recent imports by Malaysia from Australia once it enters into force, according to Australia's Trade and Competitiveness Minister, Craig Emerson.

Tariff-free entry will rise to 99 percent by 2017, according to Emerson’s office.
