Xstrata Seeks Argentine Power To Fuel $7B Copper Ramp-Up

Law360, New York (May 22, 2012, 4:35 PM EDT) -- An Xstrata Copper subsidiary is seeking to purchase 50 megawatts of electricity for its Argentine mining operation, an energy supplier said Tuesday as the company renews its commitment to a $7 billion initiative to increase copper production by more than 60 percent over three years.

Xstrata Pachón SA has submitted a letter of interest in negotiating an offtake contract with Earth Heat Resources Ltd. in relation to its Copahue Geothermal Development Project, the first of its kind in Argentina, according to an announcement EHR issued Tuesday....
