DOT Awards Portland $745M Match For Light Rail Project

Law360, New York (May 23, 2012, 3:55 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has agreed to provide roughly $745 million in funding to the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon for an extension of Portland's light-rail system, the DOT said Tuesday.

The department said the funding covers half of the total cost of a $1.49 billion project extending Portland's light-rail mass transit system south roughly 7.3 miles to the suburb of Milwaukie.

The project, which is being operated by TriMet and the City of Portland, is expected to be completed by 2015.
