EU Opens Probe Into INEOS Plastics Merger

Law360, New York (September 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Worried that the $900 million acquisition of Norwegian polymers company Kerling ASA by U.K.-based INEOS Enterprises Ltd. might give the chemical giant too much control over the plastics industry, the European Commission on Friday announced an in-depth investigation into the proposed deal.

Friday was supposed to have been the commission's deadline for clearing the deal, with an Aug. 24 inquiry deadline having already been extended.
