Lab Tied To Eye Infections Halts Sterile Drug Production

Law360, New York (May 24, 2012, 7:05 PM EDT) -- A Florida pharmacy connected with a recent outbreak of fungal eye infections has recalled all of its sterile drugs and shut down its sterile compounding business, it announced Thursday, after regulators found microbes and fungus at its facility.

Franck's Compounding Pharmacy said it would focus solely on its nonsterile compounding business. Franck's, like other compounding pharmacies, uses bulk pharmaceutical products to create customized dosages or mixtures for doctors and veterinarians. Its sterile business included chemotherapy and other injectable drugs.
