NRC Renews Entergy Nuke Plant License Despite Safety Gripes

Law360, New York (May 25, 2012, 3:02 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday renewed the license for Entergy Nuclear Operations Inc.’s Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Massachusetts, over the objections of state officials, lawmakers and environmental groups who question the plant’s safety.

The five-member commission voted 3-1 to grant a new, 20-year license to the Plymouth, Mass., plant. NRC Chairman Greg Jaczko, who is resigning, was the only no vote, while Commissioner George Apostolakis did not participate.
