BLM Suggests New Route For SunZia Electricity Project

Law360, New York (May 29, 2012, 5:44 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Bureau of Land Management on Friday issued a draft environmental impact statement for SunZia Transmission LLC's high-voltage transmission project across New Mexico and Arizona, proposing an alternative 530-mile route for the project's 500-kilovolt lines.

SunZia, which consists of utilities and independent developers, is seeking to build a transmission system to deliver up to 4,500 additional megawatts of electricity through two electric transmission lines running partially through public lands and five new electrical substations.
