GOP Bill Would Tie Civil Penalties To Clean Energy Loans

Law360, New York (May 31, 2012, 4:01 PM EDT) -- A House Republican introduced a bill Thursday that would impose civil penalties as high as $50,000 on federal officials who fail to follow legal requirements for issuing loan guarantees for clean energy projects. 

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, is part of an ongoing effort by House Republicans to rein in the U.S. Department of Energy’s loan programs for clean energy technologies, which they claim have wasted taxpayer dollars and failed to generate jobs promised by the Obama administration.
