Study Finds Rampant Software Piracy In Asia, Latin America

Law360, New York (May 18, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Vietnam, the Ukraine and China have the highest software piracy rates in the world, according to a new study released Wednesday by the Business Software Alliance.

The study found that 35% of the software installed on personal computers worldwide was pirated in 2004, a one percentage point decrease from 36% in 2003. Meanwhile, losses due to piracy increased from $29 billion to $33 billion, according to a study conducted for the BSA by market research firm IDC.
