La., NC Move On Fracking Regs As State Patchwork Grows

Law360, New York (June 1, 2012, 6:56 PM EDT) -- Lawmakers in North Carolina and Louisiana moved to regulate hydraulic fracturing Thursday, adding new protections for residents and trade-secret assurances for drillers in a pair of bills that add to the growing patchwork of state and federal rules governing the practice.

In North Carolina, where fracking isn't currently allowed, a Senate committee introduced legislation to legalize it within two years, assuming regulations are in place by then.
