Markey Presses NRC On Staff Retaliation, Safety Claims

Ed Markey on Monday kept the heat on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission over allegations that an NRC supervisor retaliated against regional employees for raising nuclear safety concerns, claiming those employees have no confidence the agency's watchdog will fairly investigate their allegations.

In a letter to outgoing NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko — his second letter in less than a month — Markey said the employee whistleblowers don't trust the agency's inspector general to conduct a fair and thorough investigation due to a perceived bias toward the views of NRC management.
