NY Senate OKs Bill To Protect Judges' Privacy

Law360, New York (June 6, 2012, 3:43 PM EDT) -- The New York State Senate passed legislation Wednesday extending to judges the confidentiality guarantees currently enjoyed by attorneys in hopes of addressing a "substantial unmet need" in the state judiciary for assistance with substance abuse, depression and similar problems.

The measure sailed through the Republican-controlled Senate with no opposition after the New York legal community threw its weight behind the bill.

"We very much support this bill," New York State Bar Association spokeswoman Lise Bang-Jensen said. "In fact, it was introduced at our request."
