Ex-VECO CEO Drills Lawmaker At Trial

Law360, New York (September 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a damning bit of testimony, the former chairman of an oil services company at the center of an Alaska bribery scandal maintained that he paid a prominent state lawmaker nearly $8,000 in hopes of ensuring his help regarding a natural gas pipeline bid.

On Wednesday, Bill Allen, the onetime head of VECO Corp., testified that he paid approximately $7,993 to the state's former House Speaker Pete Kott by means of an inflated invoice, according to the Associated Press.
