NC Senate Approves Bill To Lift Fracking Ban

Law360, New York (June 8, 2012, 1:30 PM EDT) -- The North Carolina Senate on Wednesday moved a step closer to legalizing hydraulic fracturing in the state, approving a measure that would set up a government framework for regulation of the drilling activity by a 29-19 vote after shooting down amendments seeking to slow the process.

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is currently not allowed in North Carolina, but the legislation would make the gas extraction activity legal within two years, assuming regulations are not in place by then. The bill, S.B. 820, turns over rule-writing authority...
