EU Guidelines On Cookie Consent May Leave Significant Gaps

Law360, New York (June 11, 2012, 11:03 PM EDT) -- European Union regulators are reportedly poised to release guidelines aimed at clarifying companies' obligations under new online cookie rules, but lingering differences in how each member state interprets the consent requirement and in these watchdogs' enforcement powers make it unlikely that this guidance will provide companies with much certainty, attorneys say.
