Republicans Balk At NRC Nominee's Background

Law360, New York (June 13, 2012, 5:41 PM EDT) -- Senate Republicans on Wednesday questioned whether President Barack Obama's pick to lead the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission had the managerial experience to lead the agency, but signaled they wouldn't hold up her confirmation.

GOP members of the Environment and Public Works Committee said in a confirmation hearing they worried that Allison Macfarlane, an academic with expertise in nuclear waste, lacked the skills necessary to oversee the NRC's 4,000 employees and $1 billion budget, but stopped short of calling her background a deal-breaker.
