EU Antitrust Regulator Probes German Rail Giant

Law360, New York (June 13, 2012, 1:24 PM EDT) -- The European Union's competition watchdog on Wednesday launched a probe into whether Deutsche Bahn AG had exploited its dominant position in the market for German railroad electricity by giving its subsidiaries bargain prices.

The EU said it believed the electricity arm of Deutsche Bahn — a former state monopoly that remains the only German supplier of train electricity — had given the giant company's passenger and freight units preferential energy pricing over their competitors.
