DOE Extends $280M To Ohio Uranium Enrichment Plant

Law360, New York (June 13, 2012, 8:13 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy on Wednesday agreed to provide $280 million to prop up a USEC Inc. plant in Ohio designed to supply enriched uranium to nuclear power plants, saying the money would support research to ensure the technology is commercially viable.

The DOE said it would immediately throw out an $88 million lifeline to to fund a research, development and demonstration program at USEC’s American Centrifuge Plant, which has grappled for financial aid from the federal government for more than three years.
