Discover Told To Clarify Restrictions In Cash-Back Ads

Law360, New York (June 15, 2012, 6:35 PM EDT) -- An advertising industry self-regulator told Discover Financial Services LLC on Thursday to spell out the restrictions of its “cash back” rewards in advertisements for its program, following Chase Bank USA NA’s complaint that the TV commercials hid critical eligibility requirements.

The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus concluded that the credit card company should either clearly disclose the terms of its 5 percent and 1 percent cash-back programs or discontinue the unqualified television commercials.
