Chile Fines Whirlpool $10M, Clears Tecumseh In Cartel Probe

Law360, New York (June 18, 2012, 9:42 PM EDT) -- Chile's antitrust court granted Tecumseh Do Brasil Ltda. immunity Thursday for its role in a refrigerator compressor cartel, making the company the first to avoid cartel fines under the country's leniency program, and fined Whirlpool SA roughly $10 million over the same plot.

The tribunal, known by its Spanish acronym TDLC, agreed to allow Tecumseh to avoid penalties in Chile for the international cartel on request from the country's National Economic Prosecutor, which said Friday that Tecumseh was the first company to meet the legal requirements...
