NJ Panel OKs Court Fee Hike To Fund Legal Aid Program

Law360, New York (June 18, 2012, 6:41 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey Senate panel approved a bill Monday allowing the state judiciary to hike court filing fees to fund free legal services for indigent clients in civil cases and to help pay for the implementation of the e-Court online court information system.

S2062, which calls for raising $27.1 million a year for the two programs, allows the state Supreme Court to decide which fees to increase after a public hearing. No single fee can be raised more than $50 under the bill.
