Texas Commission Wants Access To Judicial Proceedings

Law360, New York (June 18, 2012, 10:45 PM EDT) -- A commission that advises the Texas Legislature on the continued necessity of various agencies asked the state attorney general on Thursday for a formal opinion on the whether the commission has the right to attend hearings and obtain documents related to judicial conduct proceedings.

In a letter to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, Sunset Advisory Commission chairman Dennis Bonnen claims that the Commission on Judicial Conduct has repeatedly denied Sunset staff access to records and disciplinary hearings, citing attorney-client privilege and confidentiality protections.
