Russian Aluminum Giant's $850M Plant Gets Chinese Backing

Law360, New York (June 19, 2012, 2:54 PM EDT) -- United Co. RUSAL, the world's biggest aluminum producer, announced Tuesday that China's export-import bank will help finance its new $850 million factory in Siberia.

The plant will make anodes, which are used in aluminum production, and will serve smelters in eastern Siberia who export to China, where demand for the metal is growing. China is the world's biggest consumer of aluminum and is poised to become a net importer of the metal by 2025 as domestic production falls.
