Fla. Appeals Court Nixes $6.6M Union Carbide Asbestos Award

Law360, New York (June 20, 2012, 2:58 PM EDT) -- A Florida appeals court on Wednesday overturned a $6.6 million jury verdict for a man who claimed he contracted mesothelioma by working with materials containing asbestos mined by Union Carbide Corp., saying he failed to present sufficient evidence that the product's defects caused the illness.

The appeals panel said the lower court relied on the wrong interpretation of the law in the case, and remanded the matter for a new trial.
