ABA Pushes Senate To Vote On Judicial Confirmations

Law360, New York (June 20, 2012, 10:36 PM EDT) -- The American Bar Association, fearing that the U.S. Senate would invoke the "Thurmond Rule" barring confirmations of circuit court judges in the months before a presidential election, urged the Senate on Wednesday to move forward on pending judicial nominations.

In a letter addressed to the leaders of both parties in the Senate, the ABA asked the chamber to schedule votes on three pending noncontroversial circuit court nominees before July and on district court nominees with strong bipartisan support afterward.
