NJ Senate OKs Court Filing Fee Hikes To Fund E-Court

Law360, New York (June 25, 2012, 5:05 PM EDT) -- The New Jersey Senate on Monday approved legislation giving the state judiciary power to increase civil court filing fees to help fund legal services to the poor and to pay for the implementation of the e-Court online court information system.

The proposed legislation, A-763, calls for raising an additional $27.1 million in filing fees each year to fund the two programs. Under the bill, the state Supreme Court would decide which fees to increase after a public hearing, and no single fee could be raised more...
