CEZ To Sell Off Power Plant To End EU Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (June 26, 2012, 2:52 PM EDT) -- Czech utility CEZ AS plans to sell at least one of its coal-burning power plants in order to end the European Commission's probe over suspicions that the company has illegally tried to keep would-be rivals from entering the country's electricity market, CEZ said Tuesday.

The European Union's antitrust watchdog has been looking into whether the country's incumbent electricity producer had abused its dominance by thwarting competitors' efforts to join the Czech wholesale electricity market by "hoarding ... capacity in the transmission network."
