Russia's Human Rights Record Shouldn't Derail Trade: Clinton

Law360, New York (June 27, 2012, 4:10 PM EDT) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said Wednesday that she remained optimistic about U.S.-Russia relations despite a Senate committee’s approval of a bill aimed at deterring human rights violations, which set off a firestorm with Russian officials.

Clinton told reporters in Helsinki, Finland, that as the U.S. worked to normalize trade relations with Russia prior to its admission to the World Trade Organization in August, the U.S. Congress remained very concerned about the country’s human rights record.
