Official Lauds Quality Of SEC Tips Under New Program

Law360, New York (June 26, 2012, 7:51 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is getting slightly more tips from insiders — about eight per day — now that its new and controversial whistleblower program is fully up and running, but the biggest change has come in the improved quality of those reports, an agency official said Tuesday.

Instead of the two-sentence tips they often got prior to last fall's enactment of the Dodd-Frank-mandated whistleblower program, SEC officials now regularly receive multipage reports complete with supporting evidence and proffers of assistance from company insiders,...
