'Bath Salts' Drug Ban Heads To Obama's Desk

Law360, New York (June 28, 2012, 7:08 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Congress on Tuesday passed sweeping legislation permanently banning the chemical compounds marketed and sold as bath salts and incense in the U.S., hoping to curb the fast rise of a headline-making designer drug linked to violent and bizarre behavior among its purported users.

The new measure, introduced and championed by New York Sen. Charles Schumer last month, effectively bans bath salts, synthetic marijuana and synthetic hallucinogens across the country. It now heads to President Barack Obama’s desk for final approval.
