U.K. Seizures of Pirated DVDs Rise Fourfold

Law360, New York (November 17, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- A surge in film piracy in the U.K. is costing the industry an estimated £400 million this year, the British Film Council said, citing a new survey.

So far this year, seizures of pirated DVDs have increased almost 400% to 1.23 million, according to the Federation Against Copyright Theft. In raids last year, police and investigators seized 659,000 pirate DVDs with a market value of £10 million.
