U.S. To Cut Farm Subsidies, Asks Others To Follow

Law360, New York (September 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The United States has conceded to lower ceilings on farm subsidies and asked other countries to follow its lead as part of current round of World Trade Organization talks on opening global trade.

“The U.S. is committed to a balanced and ambitious outcome,” said Sean Spicer, an assistant U.S. trade representative. “We made it clear at APEC that we are prepared to negotiate on the basis of the current agriculture and industrial good texts in Geneva [where the talks are currently taking place].”
