Global Proposal Prompts CFTC To Reopen Margin Comments

Law360, New York (July 6, 2012, 5:52 PM EDT) -- The top U.S. swaps regulator on Friday reopened the comment period for a proposed rule that would require companies to post margin for derivative contracts not processed through a central clearinghouse after international bank supervisors released their own proposal for such reforms.

Although the consultative paper that came out Friday largely aligns with an April proposed rule from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the agency said that it was vital that rules finalized in the United States are in conformity with margin requirements for uncleared...
