Cockatoo’s $1.1B Coal Mine Ushered To Enviro Study Stage

Law360, New York (July 9, 2012, 4:23 PM EDT) -- The Australian state of Queensland gave Cockatoo Coal Ltd. the go-ahead Monday to prepare a full environmental impact statement for the AU$1.12 billion (US$1.14 billion) Taroom coal mine it has planned for the northern Surat Basin.

The clearance moves the Taroom project to the next significant rung on the approval ladder, advancing the largest of eight coal projects Cockatoo is developing on the northern perimeter of the coal- and gas-rich Surat Basin in southwestern Queensland, according to a statement from the Queensland Department of State Development,...
