FDA Orders Opioid Makers To Fund Abuse Prevention Training

Law360, New York (July 9, 2012, 7:37 PM EDT) -- To curb painkiller abuse, drug manufacturers will be required to fund training for doctors and nurses on the best ways to prescribe and monitor certain opioid pain medications under an arrangement announced Monday by the Food and Drug Administration.

Opioid painkillers have become extremely popular over the past several years, sparking a wave of addiction and overdose deaths that public health agencies say is an epidemic.
