89 More ACOs Jump Into Medicare Pilot Program

Law360, New York (July 9, 2012, 7:56 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday announced another round of accountable care organizations that will participate in Medicare's shared savings pilot program, part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Eighty-nine ACOs joined the program July 1 and will serve 1.2 million beneficiaries across 40 states and Washington, D.C., according to health officials. That brings the total number of ACOs participating in these programs up to 154, serving more than 2.4 million Medicare patients.
